Current Series: Like a Wildfire: The Acts of the Apostles and the Early Church
When: June 8 – September 14, 2025
Context: The Book of Acts is a thoughtful history of the birth, development, and movement of the early Church. Through the movements of Peter, Stephen, Paul, and other companions, a story unfolds of God’s Spirit falling on humanity and sweeping through the land with great ardor. The 28 chapters take us on a journey from Jerusalem to Rome with profound theology, incredible stories, miracles, tragedies, and all sorts of unique moments. It is a critical book in our canon as it shows how this movement around Jesus and his ministry is transformed into a global Church honoring the New Covenant found in his death, burial and resurrection.
Purpose: Over the past four summers, our intention has been to slow walk through a Gospel. This year, we will be focusing on the Acts of the Apostles as it is the companion book to the Gospel according to Luke. Over a fourteen week period, we’ll cover the 28 chapters through a weekly sermon and a weekly reading plan as well.
The questions we hope to tackle each week are:
- What is God up to in the story/passage?
- How is this increasing the growth of the Church?
- Why is this helpful and hopeful for us today?
My deep desires for our summer series are simplicity and story. I long for our community to be captured by scripture and experience God’s Spirit at work in our lives as the text is read and contemplated.
