Take it Further: Psalm of Protest by Julie Cramer

“Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything. Jacob-wrestling God fights for us, God of angel armies protects us” (Ps. 46:10–11, MSG).

See us, Lord. Dispatch your angel armies. Wage your holy war.
Thwart the oppressors, murderers, liars, false prophets, corrupt leaders
who beat back the masses, photo-opting, co-opting your name.

Selah.

You alone tore the veil in two, not going gentle into that good night.
You alone upended the status-quo.
You alone fulfilled the Law.
You alone are law and order, Creator and Creative Power.
You alone can quell the rage, suture the wound, heal the blind.
You alone are worthy of allegiance.

Selah.

Rain down fire from heaven. God of justice—Rain it down.
Oh, Man of Sorrows, your body bore our grief in death,
and in mercy, in miracle, it rose. Rise now.
Kindred of humanity, hail your Kingdom come.
Rescue, please rescue. We cannot endure.
For surely, to whom else can we turn? It is only to you.
You encamp around us in the presence of our enemies.
You lead us through the wildernesses by your light, pillar of fire.
Oh, Lord of hosts, we are so tired. Bring light. Bring the light.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. With all your victory, power, and might—
we cry out to you now: Swift justice, sentence those who mock the law of life.
Do not let us go asphyxiated into that good night.

Selah.
