The Skinny: December 03, 2017

Headlines & Sunday Announcements

Drop off days December 10 & 17

Let’s show our appreciation to all the hard working Ashley Park staff this Christmas. It’s as easy as 1-2-3

Step 1: Buy a mug (or two), something cool (male, female gender neutral, your pick)

Step 2: Bake some cookies or a sweet treat. You know, something delicious,  one of your favorites. Place 5-6 in a ziplock.

Step 3: Bring the mug and the baked goods to church on December 10th and 17th. Done. Awesome.

Together as a community, we will collect enough items for every staff person to choose a mug of their choice and the sweet treat that looks the most delicious to them.

Let’s make the Ashley Park staff feel seen, valued and appreciated! It is a simple act, but it can mean the world to someone in need of a little  encouragement this Christmas season.

Saturday, December 9, 2-4pm

Warehouse 242 has the honor of hosting the Changed Choices Annual Christmas Party on December 9. Attendees include those who are directly impacted by incarceration and their allies. It is a wonderful celebration of the hope that we have in Jesus, whose arrival as a baby pierced the darkness of this world and of our hearts. Miea Walker will be the keynote speaker. She is a friend in Raleigh, NC connected with the Christian Community Development Association and the North Carolina Justice Center. Most recently, Miea was appointed to the Governor’s State Rentry Council Collaborative.

This year, the theme of the Christmas Party is “Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room.” The first response to Jesus on this earth was “no room in the inn.” Even so, God showed humanity radical hospitality and “made room” in his divinity for us by sending his son Jesus into the world. How can we prepare room in our hearts for Jesus? What does it look like to prepare room in our hearts for each other? How can our larger society “prepare room” for those affected by incarceration?

As a congregation, W242 is being invited to extend radical hospitality in all sorts of ways.

Wednesday, December 13, 6:30-8:30pm

Guys, invite your buddies and come to the Coffee Room for worship, prayer, and conversation. Marc Dickmann will be talking with us about how to be fully present during this season.

Friday, December 15, 6-9:30pm

Need to finish some shopping without little ones tagging along? Want a date night but have tapped out all of your babysitters? Let the Warehouse DR team help! $35 for the first kid, $10 for each additional. We’ll feed them, show them a movie, and have a grand old time. All money raised goes towards the trip to the DR in March. Click HERE to register!

Beginning the morning of December 24, we will start gathering for one service only at 10am. There are several reasons for this, not the least of which is we just love having all of you in the room at the same time! In addition to providing a more vibrant time of worship, moving to one service will free up time before and after for other classes and spiritual development opportunities.

Stay tuned for information on the new plan for Kids Warehouse families and volunteers! It’s exciting stuff!
